Object Lesson - We can Trust God's Plans

This Origami object lesson for kids or youth will help you demonstrate how when we trust God and His directions, we don't really need to know the end result of His plans for us.

Object Lesson - A Lesson in Trust

Lesson Title:  Trust God's Plans

Object:  Origami Crown

Bible Verses:  Proverbs 3:5-6

Main Point:   We can trust God's plans by first trusting Him and obeying His directions

Preparation: You will need two sheets of paper and scissors for each student or plenty of square post-it notes for the Origami crown project.  Practice this craft beforehand.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him,

and He will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

For this object lesson, do NOT tell the kids what you are making.  They must trust and follow your directions even not knowing what the final outcome will be.  In the same way, Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us the we can trust God and follow His directions for life which we find in His Word.  He knows the future and holds it in His power.

Object Lesson Activity

Give each student two sheets of 8 ½ X 11 inch paper (copy, construction, notebook, etc.) and a pair of scissors of 8-10 square post-it notes.

Do NOT tell the students what they are making.  This is demonstrating how we are to trust and follow God even though we may not know His plans for us.

Demonstrate and lead them through the steps of making 8-10 individual pieces as seen in the video below.  Along the way ask what they think they may be making.  Also ask if they are getting frustrated with you for not telling them.

Explain that many times in life we may not know what is ahead or where God is leading, but when we know Him and His love for us, we can trust Him and His plan.

While working, have them talk about what they hope may be in their future, what they hope to be when they grow up or even hope to do this next year.

Once everyone has their pieces, show them how to connect them together while still discussing what you may be creating.  Finally show them how to make it into a circle and see that they have made a crown.

This object lesson is also a great tool to introduce a Bible lesson on the story of Queen Esther - with full video lesson.
