This simple object lesson shares how continual communication with God changes the quality of our spiritual lives and also renews & refreshes us as it gives us an avenue for spiritual cleansing.

Object Lesson Topic: Prayer
Title: "Take a Deep Breath"
Object: Act of breathing
Bible verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Key Takeaway: It is important for us to continually pray and remain in constant communication with God.
Think about it....breathing is something we are constantly doing. Stop for a moment and see how long you can hold your breath.
Why couldn't you continue holding your breath?
Yes, we need to breathe to live! That's just how our bodies work.
Prayer can be a lot like breathing. Paul states in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 that we are to
Does this mean we are constantly walking around with our heads bowed and eyes closed?! Absolutely not! Can you imagine what would happen? That could be dangerous!
Most of the time, we're not even aware of our breathing; we don't even have to think about it. It just happens naturally. God wants us to be so aware of His presence with us that it becomes natural to communicate with Him throughout our day just like walking through the day talking with a friend.
Yes, there will be times we need to stop and catch our "spiritual" breath, but this prayer object lesson shows us it is also something we can do as we go about our day.
For example:
When we breathe, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Breathing actually cleanses our bodies!
During the next few minutes take several long deep breaths. As you breathe in ask God to fill your life, to draw you closer to Him. As you breathe out, confess to God areas of your life in which you've been disobedient to Him and ask for His forgiveness.
Just as breathing can bring cleansing to our physical bodies, so can prayer to our spiritual bodies.
Let's memorize 1 Thess. 5:17 now and let our constant breathing remind us to continually pray - talk to God. He is always with us!
